Rumor: Potential opening dates for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway

Updated:

Update: After rumored delays, the attraction will officially open in Spring 2020.

Original story: Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is an exciting new attraction that’s coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2019. To date, Disney hasn’t released an official opening date for the anticipated attraction that will reside in the former location of the Great Movie Ride. They have stated the ride will be open by Fall 2019, but that should be viewed as an “at the latest” statement.

While no exact dates are confirmed, new speculation suggests the ride may open in Summer 2019.

One rumored opening window comes courtesy of Jim Hill who suggests Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will open in May 2019. That date seems fairly optimistic. Meanwhile, noted Disney insider Martin Smith suggests a window of July 2019 is possible, but not certain.

Last I heard was possibly July.

That makes it sound like July 2019 might be a best case scenario while a more reliable bet could be August 2019.

Though these dates are rumors and aren’t set in stone, an opening of Summer 2019 makes a lot of sense. Disney will want the ride to be up and running long before they open Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. They’ll need every attraction and show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios ready to run at full capacity in anticipation of the enormous crowds that will likely arrive at the park.

As with the opening of any attraction, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will encounter inevitable issues and downtime. Disney will want to make sure all of the bugs are worked out of the ride before the crowds pick up. A Summer 2019 opening (regardless of whether it is July or August) should provide for at least a couple months to make sure things are running smoothly before Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens in Fall 2019.
