Update: Disney has officially announced Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will open in Spring 2020.

A new report has surfaced suggesting that the opening of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios might be delayed.
Originally, rumors stated that the new attraction could open in Summer 2019. Now, it sounds possible that the ride won’t be ready in time for the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on August 31, 2019.
Disney insider Martin Smith stated that the ride might be significantly delayed and the early reports about it opening in the summer may not come to fruition.
“There’s whispers that this attraction could be quite delayed. Was an official date ever released? No April fool.”
Martin Smith
Smith later stated that mid to late Summer 2019 was the original window for the ride to open. That would have put it in line to open prior to the mad rush for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. That idea sounds a bit more unrealistic following the rumored delays.
Specifics regarding what may be causing the delay have not been released. Some believe that there could be an issue with the ride vehicles losing connection as they travel through the attraction, but that and the delays themselves haven’t been confirmed. Disney has been fairly quiet about the attraction in recent months.
Logically, Disney would love for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway to open prior to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Disney’s Hollywood Studios will need as much help as it can to try and absorb the enormous crowds that will arrive for Star Wars.
Stay tuned. Fall 2019 or even 2020 might be the most logical opening window now assuming there aren’t any additional delays.
