Foundation Work Continues on Monsters Inc. Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Updated:

The creation of Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios keeps marching forward! While we’ve spotted crews changing the facades of the buildings in the old Muppets Courtyard, the most significant work is taking place just outside of the park. Let’s take a look at the progress of the land’s headliner – the Monsters Inc. Door Coaster.

The old cast member parking lot at Hollywood Studios will be home to the Monsters Inc. Door Coaster. Thanks to some new aerial images from @bioreconstruct, we can see just how big the coaster’s building will be.

The ride building has a massive footprint. Compare the nearby cars to see the immense size of the foundation. Even better, look at the picture below and try to spot the numerous construction workers in neon green and yellow. It’s not easy!

Wild, right? We’re glad the Door Coaster is being built beyond the normal border of Hollywood Studios because it takes up so much space. This will be a true addition to the park.

In other images, @bioreconstruct notes that electrical conduit is being put into place. Supports for vertical construction can also be spotted.

Regardless of what you think of Monsters Inc taking over the former home of the Muppets, it’s hard to not be excited about the Door Coaster. This coaster will be unlike any Disney has built, and will feature a vertical lift and a suspended ride. Guests will zip around just like Mike and Sulley did in the door factory in the original Monsters Inc.

Excited for Monstropolis? We are too! But, we’ll all have to wait a bit longer as the land doesn’t have an opening date at this time. We’re predicting an opening date at some point in 2028 after the Tropical Americas land opens in Disney’s Animal Kingdom in 2027.
