Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open August 29, 2019 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Updated:

It’s time to mark your calendars and start planning your visit to a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will officially open August 29, 2019 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World.

The date was revealed during the Walt Disney Company’s 2019 Annual Meeting of Shareholders. The opening of the land at Hollywood Studios comes roughly three months after the opening of the mostly-identical land at Disneyland on May 31, 2019.

It is worth noting that the announcement of the land’s opening mentioned that the openings of the two Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attractions will be split. Smugglers Run, the Millennium Falcon attraction, will open first with the Rise of the Resistance ride opening at a later date. Specifics regarding the opening dates of the attractions, particularly those in Walt Disney World, haven’t been revealed.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge promises to be the most immersive and detailed land that Disney has ever created. Early reveals have shown the immense scale of the Rise of the Resistance ride and have explained that each cast member will have their own unique backstory and mix-and-match costumes. That’s in addition to the unique food, drinks and merchandise that will provide a brand new experience even for seasoned Walt Disney World visitors.

Now that an official date has been announced, guests can start planning their trips and preparing for the enormous crowds that will arrive at Walt Disney World. The date also gives a better approximation of when guests should expect to see the Disney Skyliner up and running. Disney will do whatever it takes to have their new transportation system up and running prior to the Star Wars opening.

While setting an official opening date may feel like the conclusion of the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge addition, it may just be the first phase. Disney appears to already have plans to evolve and expand the space to keep bringing new Star Wars stories to guests.
