Disney Cruise Line’s ship dedicated to the Tokyo market is officially named the Disney Imagination. This fifth and final Wish-class ship will be operated by the Oriental Land Company, who also operates Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. The ship is scheduled to sail beginning in 2029.
The Oriental Land Company also revealed that the stern character will be Ariel and Sebastian from The Little Mermaid.
We finally have a ship called the Imagination! We’ve been predicting for years that ‘Imagination’ should be a name for a Disney cruise ship. It’s too perfect. That said, we would’ve preferred to see everyone’s favorite purple dragon, Figment, adorning the stern. Maybe he’ll be featured inside?
It also would’ve made a lot of sense to feature Duffy on the back of the ship sailing from Tokyo. He’s basically a superstar in Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. While he’s not on the stern, it’s practically a guarantee he’ll be incorporated into the ship’s design somehow.
Our fatigue for the Wish-class style of ships is well documented. We found the reveal of the Disney Believe to be pretty underwhelming. We’re so ready for a new style of Disney cruise ships. That said, the Disney Imagination has us intrigued. The theming and design of Tokyo DisneySea is arguably the best of any Disney theme park, and we’re excited to see how they influence a cruise ship.
