Disney Cruise Line reached an agreement in early 2019 to purchase Lighthouse Point, a tropical paradise that will give the company a second destination in the Bahamas. Now, a new website featuring plans, information and concept art has been released at lighthousepointbahamas.com.
Let’s start with the most exciting part of the new website – the plans and concept art! Disney Cruise Line guests are used to the peace, tranquility and beauty of Castaway Cay. The plans for Lighthouse Point include some familiar plans compared to Castaway Cay, such as beaches and cabanas, but also some new ideas such as an Adventure Camp.
The plans call for a South Family Beach, an East Family Beach, a North Beach, plans for Cabanas in several locations, nature trails and an Adventure Camp, which will be home to trails and lookout towers. A separate crew area will include housing, administrative areas and a solar farm.
The new website also includes economic opportunity information on how the plans will benefit the Bahamas. Specifically, Disney mentions the additional jobs and revenue the destination will bring to the Island of Eleuthera. Previous concerns prior to Disney’s purchase highlighted fears over conservation and the disruption of natural habitats with development. To meet those concerns, Disney has set aside land for conservation and aims to rehabilitate corral reefs in the area. Additional details can be found on their environmental impact page.
