Disney Cruise Line has updated their rules on stateroom door decorations. The new policy prevents guests from decorating nearby walls, ceilings, and corridors. All decorations must now be confined to the guest’s stateroom door. Fish extenders will continue to be allowed.
This change in policy comes after several pictures of guests decorating entire sections of the hallway went viral over the past few months. In this article are just a couple examples we’ve seen over on the DCL subreddit. Some families have been covering the hallway with pictures of themselves. It’s strange. Remarkably, this isn’t an isolated incident. We’ve found other examples.
We won’t pretend to know why this is a thing. Hanging up dozens of pictures of yourself outside your room seems like major main character energy. Other decorations are more themed and creative, but these too have gone too far. At some point these displays become a safety hazard.

We took the picture below of a Haunted Mansion display with some impressive fake candles. You can see how guests were starting to extend their decorations beyond the stateroom door even in 2022.
Unfortunately, things have progressively gotten more out of hand, and Disney is now reigning things back in.
Disney could have easily taken a more strict position on door decorations. They could’ve banned everything except magnets. For now, guests can still put up three-dimensional decorations as long as they don’t use over-the-door hangers and don’t damage the door. A fee of $100 per incident will be assessed if a guest damages a door.
