DINOSAUR and DinoLand USA are now extinct. Both the DINOSAUR attraction and the remaining sections of DinoLand USA said goodbye to guests for the final time on February 1, 2026. Shortly after the official closure, Disney updated their park maps to reflect the change.
Here’s the updated online park map below. That clone stamp tool was working overtime.
Construction on the Tropical Americas has been underway for quite a while now. The new Encanto attraction is rising up quickly. But, while DINOSAUR and Restaurantosaurus remained open, it’s been tough to focus on the future of Animal Kingdom.
Removing DinoLand USA and all of its campy theming is a big shift for Animal Kingdom. DINOSAUR (formerly known as Countdown to Extinction) was an opening day attraction. Dr. Grant Seeker was a unique character made for the ride, and had some amazing quotable lines. In many ways DINOSAUR and Restaurantosaurus were some of the last relics of an era that’s mostly gone around Disney World.
Remember the dedication of Animal Kingdom? How well does it hold up today?
Welcome to a kingdom of animals… real, ancient, and imagined: a kingdom ruled by lions, dinosaurs, and dragons; a kingdom of balance, harmony, and survival; a kingdom we enter to share in the wonder, gaze at the beauty, thrill at the drama, and learn.
Michael Eisner’s Dedication of Animal Kingdom
We’re not being a doom-and-gloomer. We’re excited about the Encanto ride, and we want to see how Disney turns DINOSAUR into an Indiana Jones ride. But, we’d by lying if we said we’re not a little sad. The silliness and theming of DinoLand USA will be missed.
