Nighttime fireworks spectaculars may return to Walt Disney World in the relatively near future. New rumors are suggesting that Disney is quickly advancing discussions on bringing fireworks shows back to its theme parks. No specific timelines have been given, but it’s believed Summer 2021 is the current target.
This is an evolving story. Fireworks returning in either June or July seems the most likely, though nothing is definite at this time. Disney may still need to determine how to safely bring back their fireworks shows while managing high guest demand. A separate reservation or even a paid ticketed event are possibilities to manage crowds.
Disney is closely watching the growing vaccination rates and the improved access to vaccines as they plan for the next several months. Even with the positive trends, they’ll still want to physically distance crowds as much as they can when they first bring back fireworks shows.
Where will fireworks return first? Epcot seems like the best candidate due to its size, but we don’t think Disney will bring fireworks back with the debut of Harmonious. It’s possible we haven’t seen the last of Epcot Forever quite yet.
At this point we’ll welcome any fireworks show that can safely return at Walt Disney World.
