Walt Disney Imagineering has added several new larger-than-life physical props to Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in EPCOT. The new set pieces are designed to hide where the large video screens meet the floor in front of guests, creating a more immersive environment.
Check out a video from Imagineering walking through some of the new set pieces:
Disney said they’d be adding new props to the ride when they announced Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure was ditching 3D in late 2025. It’s taken time, but now the new set pieces are set up in several of the attraction’s rooms. The props help mask the very obvious spots where the screen meets the floor.
Switching Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure from 3D to 2D was a change we supported. It cut down on motion sickness complaints, and it was nice not having to deal with the 3D glasses. But, at the same time, the switch exposed the ride’s flaws. It was even more obvious that some of the rooms were just empty spaces with screens. It broke some of the immersion.
Thankfully, Disney’s work shown in the video above has helped a lot. Using props to hide the floor seam goes a long way. We’d still like to see even more props added throughout the ride, but there’s no question the changes here are a big win.
