Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure Ditching 3D at EPCOT

Updated:

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at EPCOT is abandoning 3D. The ride will close November 10-13, 2025 to update the attraction with new digital videos and images that no longer require 3D glasses. It’s also reported that new props and lighting will be added to the ride over the coming months.

Below is Disney’s announcement as seen on the attraction’s website page.

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will experience a short downtime Nov. 10-13, 2025 and will return with enhanced digital visuals and clearer imagery projected in 2D. Remy’s fans will spot new props and lighting enhancements when they are added to the queue and attraction over the next few months.

EPCOT’s Ratatouille ride ditching 3D isn’t a big surprise if you’ve been following global Disney parks news. The identical ride at Disneyland Paris moved away from 3D back in August 2025. Disney cited guest surveys as one of the key motivations behind the change. Since then, many have speculated a similar update would be coming to EPCOT.

How will the loss of 3D impact Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure? For starters, Disney will enjoy not having to stock, clean, and replace all the 3D glasses. That’s instant savings. Meanwhile, guests may appreciate not having to hang on to their glasses and deal with the inevitable messy lenses. Guests with glasses have always battled with the 3D glasses. Moving to 2D should also reduce the number of motion sickness complaints.

Unfortunately, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure has leaned on the 3D angle because the ride is lacking in full-size props and truly immersive environments. We still thoroughly enjoy the ride, but we worry removing the 3D video will only make those shortcomings more obvious – unless Disney makes significant changes.

It’ll take time to evaluate this switch to 2D as Disney is planning to make additions over the next few months. More larger-than-life props could go a long way in making the more bare scenes feel more like the outstanding kitchen scene, which is the most immersive portion of the ride.

We’re seeing more and more theme parks move away from 3D technology. Disney isn’t alone. Universal has eliminated 3D for several attractions. The constant issues with the glasses, mixed guest feedback, and the improvements in digital video has seemingly eliminated the 3D push.

At Disney World, Disney removing the 3D from Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and the closure of Muppet Vision 3D means there’s only a handful of 3D attractions remaining – Flight of Passage, Star Tours, Mickey’s PhilharMagic, and Toy Story Mania. Will we continue to see 3D removed from Disney World attractions?
