Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes Will Change at Walt Disney World in 2024

Updated:

Disney announced a wave of guest experience changes that are coming to Walt Disney World in 2024. The Disney Dining Plan is returning, the despised theme park reservation system is going away for date-based tickets, and, last but not least, Disney has hinted at changes coming to Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes at Walt Disney World.

Here’s the blurb about Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes from the Disney Parks Blog.

We have heard from guests that they would like ways to plan with Disney Genie+ service and individual Lightning Lane selections before the day of their park visit, and we want you to know we are working on ways guests may do this for visits in 2024. Our goal is to give you the opportunity to spend less time planning in the park and more time enjoying your visit with friends and family. While we are not yet able to share specific details, we look forward to sharing more information at a later date.

Disney didn’t provide any details on how Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes will change in 2024, but their announcement indicates they’ve heard guest feedback. Specifically, Disney has heard guests say they feel they are spending too much time on their phone in the parks and spending too much time of their vacation planning.

It’s easy to speculate about the upcoming changes in 2024. It sounds like Disney could pivot back to the FastPass+ model where guests selected their line-skipping choices prior to their visit. Genie+ could become like a paid version of the old FastPass+, though it’s unclear how that’d work with Individual Lightning Lane reservations.

Disney will release more information on the 2024 changes in the near future.
