The Disney Skyliner recently celebrated its 5th anniversary at Walt Disney World! As crazy as that sounds (it feels like it just opened!), the Disney Skyliner has been flying guests through the sky at Disney World since September 29, 2019. In honor of the milestone, Disney shared a few fun facts about the unique transportation system.
As you might know, the Disney Skyliner connects guests to two theme parks and four resorts at Disney World. Guests can board the Skyliner at five different stations located at EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Riviera Resorts, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and at a station located between Disney’s Pop Century and Art of Animation Resorts.
Since opening, the Skyliner has carried guests more than 1,000,000 miles. That’s a lot of circuits around the aerial route that covers about three miles.
Ever wonder how fast the Skyliner goes? It reaches a top speed of 12 miles per hour, which is more than enough speed to keep a steady breeze inside the cabins. Speaking of the cabins, there’s more than 300 of them. More than half of those are decorated with characters from Disney movies, but many guests prefer the unwrapped cabins as the views aren’t as obstructed.
We think the Disney Skyliner is one of the best additions at Disney World in the past decade. It’s quick, convenient, and generally very reliable. Would Disney ever consider expanding the Disney Skyliner? It’s possible. Guests would love to see Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge or Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park become more accessible.
