Old Muppets Store Completely Demolished at Hollywood Studios

Updated:

The Stage 1 Company Store (also known as the Muppets Store) has been completely demolished at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The old shop sat in the middle of Muppets Courtyard and was surrounded by Mama Melrose restaurant, PizzeRizzo restaurant, and the exit of Muppet Vision 3D.

The always great @bioreconstruct captured aerial images showing the demolished store.

The Stage 1 Company Store had effectively been closed since 2020. The building also had much of its exterior Muppets theming removed prior to 2020 as Disney opened Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and created Grand Avenue.

As sad as we’ve been to see Muppets Courtyard close, we’re not sad to see this building go. The old Muppets theming has been gone for a long time. And, worst of all, this building always felt a bit in the way. We know some guests didn’t even know Mama Melrose existed because it was tucked back behind the building.

Demolishing the old Muppets Store will provide access to the new Doors Coasters and make the center of the new Monsters Inc land feel more open. Check out the updated concept art to see how open things look.

For reference, the old Muppets Store sat just in front of Harryhausen’s in the concept art above. It looks like trees and landscaping will be used to make a courtyard in place of the Stage 1 Company Store. That feels like a welcome change.

The new Monsters Inc land at Hollywood Studios doesn’t have an official opening date at this time.
