Spaceship Earth at EPCOT will close for refurbishment beginning August 25, 2025. The ride doesn’t have a reopening date at this time, but it is currently scheduled to reopen at some point in 2025.
No additional details were provided about Spaceship Earth’s refurbishment. However, based on the timelines, we can assume the closure will mostly cover basic maintenance. There may be some nice changes riders will notice, but we don’t expect anything massive.
This is not the extended, multi-year closure Disney had announced for Spaceship Earth back in 2020. That project, which Disney officially said was paused in June 2020, was going to replace the track and update many of the ride’s show scenes. There were even plans to change the loading and unloading area, but those were rumored to have been cancelled even before the project was put on hold.
Spaceship Earth is still due for an extensive, lengthy refurbishment. Disney still has the plans from 2020 on the shelf, but are those ideas still in line with what the current leadership envisions? Is Spaceship Earth even a priority when other nearby attractions, like Journey Into Imagination With Figment, desperately need some attention?
