The Monsters Inc. Door Coaster just reached a significant milestone at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The first vertical supports have been installed for the coaster, giving us a new look at the size and scale of the attraction. Let’s take a look at the new supports and what else is being worked on around Monstropolis.
As always, big thanks to @bioreconstruct for this project update.
We’re starting with an overview of where the Monsters Inc. Door Coaster will live. It’s taking over a large chunk of what used to be cast member parking. A top-down view gives a better idea of scale. Try comparing the site to the nearby cars. Better yet, try to spot some construction workers. It’s tough!
Speaking of those vertical supports, they look a lot larger when you see a construction worker standing next to them.
Looking around the rest of the site, there’s quite a bit going on. The different areas of the building are in different stages while work on conduit and more continues.
Finally, we’ll leave with a final look at the coaster building as a whole.
Now that the Monsters Inc. Door Coaster has gone vertical and is really starting to take shape, we’re left asking a lot of questions. For starters, what will Disney officially call the coaster? We doubt it’ll just be the ‘Door Coaster’ as that’s far too short for modern Disney naming conventions.
We’re also curious about how the concept art below will actually come to life. The Door Coaster is going to be a huge building. Will Disney really be able to conceal it? We’ve seen Disney take more liberties with hiding ride buildings (see the enormous Cosmic Rewind building at EPCOT), so we’re not sure how obvious it will be.
The Door Coaster will represent a genuine expansion at Hollywood Studios. That’s a big win. The park has needed additional capacity for ages. But, it’s yet another thrilling ride for a theme park that would really benefit from the addition of a dark ride. We’re not complaining (the Door Coaster should be a blast), but we do think it’s an interesting choice.
Monstropolis doesn’t have an opening date at this time.
