Here’s What the ‘Luminous’ Barges Look Like in EPCOT’s World Showcase Lagoon

Date:

Preparations continue for EPCOT’s new fireworks show, Luminous: The Story of Us, in World Showcase Lagoon. The show, which is scheduled to debut December 5, 2023, will utilize new movable barges that can be transported in and out of World Showcase Lagoon.

Thanks to the always great @bioreconstruct, we can see what the barges look like when positioned for the show.

In the picture above, two of the barges are in place around a hexagonal platform. A total of six barges will be used when Luminous debuts later this year.

Here’s another look at one of the barges from a different angle. Note the motors positioned at the bottom on each side of the barge.

The show’s new barges have a much smaller profile than the old ones used in Harmonious, and, best of all, will be moved in and out of the Lagoon each day. Cast members have been testing moving and docking the barges around World Showcase Lagoon.

The Luminous: The Symphony of Us page on the Walt Disney World website describes the show as the following:

Delight in a dramatic show designed to bring us all together. Marvel at a dazzling pageant of fireworks, fountains, music and lights set to an original composition. New music, along with evocative selections from the Disney songbook, come together to remind us that we are more alike than we are different.

We still think Disney’s description for Luminous: The Symphony of Us sounds awfully similar to how they described Harmonious. That could be good or bad depending who you ask. But, initial sentiment from Disney insiders suggest Luminous is a better fit for EPCOT. Time will tell.

Are you excited for Luminous? Or are you still sad about Harmonious ending?
