Disney is building a large wall near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in an effort to hide the ongoing construction on Piston Peak and Villains Land inside the Magic Kingdom. Steel framing has already been installed along the northern and eastern sides of the coaster.
This new wall will prevent riders from having a completely unobstructed view of the massive Villains Land and Piston Peak construction sites. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad sits basically on the edge of both lands. It’d be a bit off-putting to see heavy machinery right next to you as you speed through the wildest ride in the wilderness.
Our aerial reporter @bioreconstruct captured some great pictures of the wall going up.
You can see numerous steel columns in place for the barrier. It looks like the finished product will be pretty tall, though guests may still be able to peak over the wall from the ride’s lift hills. We’ll have to wait and see just how effective the wall is at blocking prying eyes … like overly-inquisitive Disney bloggers.
Everything here is looking pretty heavy duty. That makes us think this wall will be up for a good amount of time. A few years might be a safe guess. Disney will want to shield both new lands until they’re ready to create some natural camouflage (berm, trees) to separate the areas. That step won’t be reached until near the end of the project.
We’re curious how Disney will design this new barrier – assuming they actually do any kind of design. If the wall is up as long as we’re expecting, it’d be nice for it to be themed. This is Frontierland, so maybe they’ll go rustic? Or maybe we’ll see the wall painted Go Away Green.
We’ll know a lot more once Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopens at the Magic Kingdom on May 3, 2026.
