Astro Fizz Replaces the Cool Ship at Magic Kingdom

Updated:

We finally know what’s replacing the Cool Ship at the Magic Kingdom. A new kiosk named Astro Fizz is set to open soon, serving popcorn, churros, frozen slushies, and Coca-Cola drinks. Astro Fizz has a unique design that pays tribute to the old Cool Ship, but with a modern twist.

Big thanks to DC Baker for this look of the Astro Fizz building. Coca-Cola branding will once again be a prominent feature.

The design and signage for Astro Fizz matches many of the elements in Tomorrowland, though we’re not sure the teal color completely fits. We’d still like to see a larger overhaul of Tomorrowland (replacement for Stitch’s Great Escape, overhaul of the Speedway) to add more cohesion to the land.

Disney shared a first look at some of the frozen slushies on the Astro Fizz website page. Check out the Coca-Cola, Fanta Blue Raspberry, and Fanta Orange Frozen Slushies.

The new Astro Fizz kiosk has already been added to the digital Magic Kingdom maps.

The former Cool Ship kiosk had a design that matched the retro-futuristic theming introduced in Tomorrowland in the ’90s. The steampunk-style supports were a common site around Tomorrowland, but as Disney removed those theming elements, the Cool Ship’s look remained.

Was Cool Ship a Prop From ‘Flight of the Navigator’?

We always liked seeing the Cool Ship because it’s at the heart of one of the biggest rumors (and misconceptions) in Walt Disney World. Many believe the ship on the top of the Cool Ship building was one of the props used in the movie Flight of the Navigator. Was it?

According to Jim Shull, the Disney Imagineer who worked on the Cool Ship, the building is NOT a prop from Flight of the Navigator.

Despite Shull’s statements, many still believe the Flight of the Navigator ship lived on the Cool Ship building. To be fair, the prop from the movie DID live at Disney World for a period of time in the Studio Backlot Tour at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. When the ship disappeared from that attraction, it was easy to assume it moved to a new home on Disney property.

Will that settle the Flight of the Navigator and Cool Ship rumor? Probably not, but those rumors should fade now that Astro Fizz has replaced the Cool Ship.
