Walt Disney World to remain closed until further notice, cast paid through at least April 18

Walt Disney World will officially stay closed to guests until further notice. As expected, the closure has been extended beyond the initial March 31, 2020 date due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

This news comes as large sections of the country, including areas in Florida, are following “Stay at Home” orders to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Disney will continue to pay its hourly parks and resorts cast members through April 18.

Walt Disney World extending their closure isn’t a surprise. Following the decision to send the Disney College Program cast members home, it was widely believed that a May reopening would be the most optimistic scenario. Of course, the COVID-19 situation is extremely fluid and is rapidly changing from one day to the next. It’s impossible to know at this time when Walt Disney World will be able to reopen.
