Walt Disney World Railroad now closed for TRON construction, train parked at the Main Street Station

The Walt Disney World Railroad is now officially closed while construction takes place for the new TRON coaster in Tomorrowland. One of the trains, the Lilly Belle, has been parked at the Main Street Station for unique photo opportunities during the closure.

Take a look at some of the up-close views guests can see of the iconic train courtesy of Alicia Stella on Twitter.

Guest can not board the railroad, but they can get great views of the locomotive that was originally built in 1928.

There is no official reopening date scheduled at this time. It’s believed that this will be an extended closure that could last up to a year, but that hasn’t been confirmed.

The closure is due to the construction for TRON near the Tomorrowland Speedway. Based on the concept art for the TRON coaster, the building appears to stretch over the railroad tracks for the Walt Disney World Railroad next to Space Mountain.

While it’s always a bit sad to see the railroad inactive around the Magic Kingdom, it’s nice that Disney is allowing guests to take a look at one of its historic trains. Meanwhile, it will be fascinating to watch Tomorrowland transform with the addition of TRON.
