Video: New auction scene in Pirates of the Caribbean

Pirates of the Caribbean has officially reopened at the Magic Kingdom, completing a short refurbishment that altered the infamous auction scene. Instead of auctioning off women to the pirates (“We want the redhead!”), the auction now includes the redhead as one of the pirates and centers around hens and rum.

This isn’t too bad, though it won’t sit well with those who believe there wasn’t anything wrong with the original scene. However, it would’ve been fun to see the redhead more involved in the new scene. Maybe the auction for rum continues, but the drunk pirates could still yell “We want the redhead” only to have the redhead fire off her gun in their direction? Disney could have kept the iconic line while making things a bit more dynamic.

Regardless, it’s important to remember that Disney World (and Disneyland for that matter) aren’t museums. They’re evolving, constantly-changing locations. To view them as anything else is a guaranteed way to set yourself up for disappointment.
