Rise of the Resistance expected to be at least 15 minutes long, will have “laser blasts in mid-air”

Updated:

The Rise of the Resistance ride that’s coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has been advertised as the most innovative and immersive ride Disney has ever created. Disney has been careful to avoid revealing too many details, but Bob Chapek indicated how long the ride may last during a recent television special.

Chapek, who is Disney’s Chairman of Parks, Experiences and Products, commented on the ride experience and mentioned the ride may last at least 15 minutes.

“Imagine being chased for 15 minutes by Kylo Ren and the First Order. Stormtroopers everywhere, Lightsabers coming at you. Itโ€™s going to be fantastic.”

It seems unlikely that Chapek would specifically mention the 15-minute figure unless the attraction actually measured in around that length. Of course, the line measuring where a ride begins isn’t as clear as it used to be. Pre-ride shows and interactive queues have made it more difficult than ever to determine where an experience really begins. It’s possible Chapek’s estimate could include experiences that happen before guests ever board a ride vehicle.

The other juicy piece of info was from Imagineer John Larena who stated the ride would feature “fully realized laser blasts in mid-air.” We have yet to see how Disney plans to pull this off and how convincing the effect will be to riders.

Meanwhile, we’ve already seen Poe Dameron’s X-wing in the queue and some incredible footage of Kylo Ren and lots of Stormtroopers attacking guests. Everything we have seen so far has suggested Rise of the Resistance may be the pinnacle ride Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge needs and the attraction that becomes the must-do on your next visit.
