Railroad tracks removed at the Magic Kingdom for TRON coaster construction

It’s time for an update on the construction of the new TRON coaster that’s coming to the Magic Kingdom. With the Walt Disney World Railroad officially closed for what could be a year or two, a section of the tracks has been removed near Space Mountain.

The great folks over at Blog Mickey took to the sky in the nearby Barnstormer coaster to get an elevated look at the TRON construction. Now that a section of the track has been removed, heavy machinery is free to move around and start shaping the area.

It looks like all of the current work is on the landscape itself, rerouting a canal and transforming the land so that it’s ready for construction. The concept art appears to show the railroad tracks running beneath a section of the TRON building, which explains why the Walt Disney World Railroad is facing such a lengthy closure. The Tomorrowland Speedway will also close temporarily during construction.

The TRON coaster is expected to open in 2021.
