Expedition Everest closing for multi-month refurbishment in early 2022

Updated:

Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will close for a lengthy refurbishment at the beginning of 2022. The popular coaster will close January 4, 2022 and is scheduled to remain closed through mid-April 2022.

The refurbishment period is expected to address the ride’s operating systems. Unfortunately, no significant work is expected on the guest experience or the infamous Yeti animatronic.

The Yeti animatronic only worked correctly for a short time after the ride opened in 2006. Former Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde had planned to fix the Yeti, admitting there wasn’t an easy fix, but he has since left Disney.

The timing of this closure may explain why Kali River Rapids is closing for refurbishment a bit earlier in the winter months.
