Disney Skyliner to reopen today following a review by the manufacturer

The Disney Skyliner has reopened today – October 14, 2019 – for the first time since an incident at the Riviera Station caused cabins to collide and shut down operations. Disney issued an update on the Disney Skyliner stating that the system was reopening following a review by the manufacturer.

Via the Disney Parks Blog:

Following a complete review with the manufacturer, we’ve made adjustments to our processes and training, and we are improving how we communicate with guests during their flight with Disney Skyliner. We again offer our deepest apologies to the guests impacted by the malfunction that resulted in extended operating delays on Oct. 5.

While the Disney Skyliner is back up and running, system updates will produce some modified operating hours this week.

October 16, 2019
Hollywood Studios line closed
Other two lines available from 1 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.

October 17-18, 2019
All lines will be open from 1 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.

It’s still unclear what caused the incident that resulted in cabins crushing together and guests being trapped along the line for more than three hours. Thankfully, there were no serious injuries during the ordeal and Disney can use the experience as one to learn from to improve future processes. Hopefully they have a better plan in place to evacuate the cabins at a much quicker pace should any significant downtime happen in the future.
