Disney Cruise Line is reportedly expanding its operations out of Galveston, Texas. According to Galveston Port Director Rodger Rees, Disney Cruise Line is preparing to use the port full-time beginning in 2027. Currently, Disney Cruise Line is using the port seasonally with the Disney Magic sailing Western Caribbean voyages.
When asked if the Disney Magic would expand its time in Galveston, Rees responded that he believes one of Disney’s larger ships will call the port home. He alluded to the Disney Adventure, the massive ship that’s about to debut in Asia, could eventually be based from the port, though nothing has been finalized.
We think Disney will utilize the Disney Adventure extensively in Asia beyond 2027, so it remains to be seen which ship (or ships) will be dedicated out of Galveston.
With the Disney Destiny launching later this year and three new ships still on the horizon between 2029 and 2031, there will be several choices for Galveston. Those three new ships are supposed to be a new class of ship that’s bigger than the Disney Magic and Wonder, but smaller than the Dream and Wish class of ships.
