Cinderella Castle Dream Lights Won’t Return in 2023

Updated:

Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom will be without its iconic Dream Lights once again for the 2023 holiday season. The Dream Lights were notably absent in Disney’s series of announcements covering holiday entertainment at Walt Disney World.

The Dream Lights last appeared on Cinderella Castle in 2019. The strands of lights transform the Castle at night, and are one of those breathtaking sights that can’t be captured well in pictures or video.

Did we mention how awesome the lights look as the backdrop of a parade? Beautiful.

But, as awesome as the Dream Lights are, they did have some negatives. For starters, installing the Dream Lights involved a small crane being on site near Cinderella Castle for an extended period. This meant guests had to endure a crane appearing in those Castle photos, and that’s just not ideal.

The Dream Lights are also more expensive than projections, which obviously makes them ripe for cutting. It’s worth noting that we had heard some rumors about Disney planning for updated Dream Lights for 2023 (color-changing lights!), but that idea didn’t make it into the final announcements.

While the Dream Lights were nowhere to be found, Disney mentions a new “Frozen-inspired entertainment experience that will illuminate the castle in a whole new way.” Unfortunately, as encouraging as that language is, it’s expected to be updated Frozen projections to go along with an updated stage show.
