Disney’s Hollywood Studios will keep its name for the foreseeable future

Updated:

Disney’s Hollywood Studios will officially be retaining its name for the foreseeable future. That news comes directly from the Disney Parks Blog in an article revealing a look at one of the new attractions coming to Toy Story Land.

In response to questions we have been receiving, we also want to let fans know that the Disneyโ€™s Hollywood Studios name will remain the same for the foreseeable future since we are immersing our guests in a place where imagined worlds of Hollywood unfold around them from movies and music, to television and theater.

Prior to this announcement, there was a lot of speculation that Hollywood Studios would change its name following their move away from backlot experiences and more towards a “ride the movies” mentality. The theme park isn’t a studio and has been moving its theming away from the studios feel for a while now. That’s particularly true with the upcoming additions of Toy Story Land and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Still, some of the newer areas within Hollywood Studios (Grand Avenue) are still themed appropriately to keep “Hollywood” within the theme park’s name.

In addition, guest surveys revealed that Disney was testing out several unique names for the theme park. Those names ranged from OK to plain terrible. The word “Cineimagine” was reportedly thrown around, for example. There’s no confirmation as to whether or not that was a genuine possibility, but it’s a relief that it’s not being used either way.

Ultimately, they’ve elected to retain their current name for the foreseeable future. That’s always subject to change as the park evolves, but it’s probably wise to keep some original branding in place while the park alters its identity. To the non-Disney nut (also known as people probably not reading this website), the new lands combined with a new theme park name would have surely stirred up lots of confusion.

Of course, to some Hollywood Studios will always be known as MGM or MGM Studios.
