Enormous crowds have filled Walt Disney World’s theme parks this week. That’s completely expected as the period between Christmas and New Year’s Day always attracts the year’s largest crowds to the parks.
This year continues that trend as wait times have exceeded multiple hours on many attractions. Below is a quick look at some of the highest waits heading into New Year’s weekend.
Avatar Flight of Passage at Disney’s Animal Kingdom has routinely been the attraction with the longest wait this holiday season. The wait to ‘Sivako!’ has exceeded four hours at times. Other major attractions around Walt Disney World have had waits around two to three hours.
Disney Genie+, the premium line-skipping service, reached its highest all-time price this week. Genie+ has sold out at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on multiple days. Disney’s Animal Kingdom has also sold out on Genie+ on select days. It’s safe to say it’s extremely busy.
Again, the massive crowds in Walt Disney World right now aren’t a surprise and really shouldn’t be treated as a surprise. This is statistically the busiest week at Walt Disney World, exceeding other peak times such as Spring Break season and the July 4th holiday.
Does this mean you should avoid visiting Walt Disney World during the holidays? Not necessarily. Visiting the theme parks during peak crowds requires the right approach and expectations. It’s important to go with the flow and understand you won’t be able to experience everything. Consider our eight tips for visiting Walt Disney World during the holidays.
