It didn’t take Disney long to remove Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America from the digital map of Magic Kingdom. Both areas were erased from the Magic Kingdom’s digital map after the park closed for the night. The digital map now depicts green space in what will soon become an active construction zone as Disney builds Piston Peak.
If you’re already missing the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island, here’s how the digital map looked earlier in the day.
We’re not surprised the map was updated so quickly. Disney doesn’t want guests confused when this area is closed for the foreseeable future.
Seeing the two versions of the map side-by-side really drives home how massive this construction project is at the Magic Kingdom. The Rivers of America took up a lot of space, and it’s crazy to think Disney is about to bulldoze the majority of that land.
While we’re not as pessimistic about Piston Peak as others in the Disney community, we’re still sad to see such a cool natural landscape close. Both Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America had a great run being something different than the usual ride or coaster. It’s tough to put a value on amazing ambiance, but both rated extremely high in that category.
Hereโs hoping Piston Peak looks and feels as in touch with nature as Disney says.
