Test Track Closing Date Announced, New Concept Art Released

Test Track at EPCOT will close for an extensive update beginning June 17, 2024. The ride will be reimagined during the closure, and initial concept art Disney has released depicts significant changes. A reopening date hasn’t been announced at this time.

Alongside the announcement of the closing date, Disney released new concept art showing the updated exterior of Test Track. Note that the large canopy that currently blocks the view of the outside of the building is being removed. It also looks like Disney isn’t planning to enclose the outside track portion of the ride, though we’re trying to not read too much into the concept art.

Disney originally announced the retheming of Test Track at the 2023 Destination D23 parks presentation. They released the concept art below when announcing the future change.

It looks like Disney is planning to move away from the TRON-style of the current Test Track, and go back to revisit some of the ride’s original themes. We imagine there will be several nods to the World of Motion attraction that Test Track 1.0 replaced.

Guests planning to visit EPCOT this summer, and while Test Track is closed, should be ready for increased waits across the park’s other attractions. Its closure is a noticeable loss to EPCOT’s roster of attractions. But, we hope that the retheme/update will be worth it and bring Test Track back to its roots.
