The lobby at Disney’s Pop Century resort is getting an update. Disney has notified guests that work is beginning in the lobby starting July 21 and lasting through October 2025. While Disney didn’t include any details on what the new look will include, they did say that it’ll be a “retro-inspired refresh.”
Here’s the notice posted on Pop Century’s website page:
From July 21 through early October, the lobby at Disney’s Pop Century Resort will be getting a retro-inspired refresh. The lobby will remain open during construction and all amenities will still be available. Guests may hear or see maintenance in the area until work is complete.
It’s kind of funny that Pop Century, a resort that celebrates the decades between the 1950s and 1990s, has a lobby that feels dated. The time capsules on the wall are still awesome and fascinating to look at, but the flooring and color choices could use an update. While we understand Disney wanting to modernize things some, we hope they don’t strip out all the theming that makes Pop Century unique.
We’re cautiously optimistic about this project after seeing the recent changes to Pop Century’s rooms. The old Pop Century rooms felt a bit cold and sterile. That changed earlier this year when splashes of color were added to the rooms through new paint, a new flooring inlay, new curtains, and more. Those touches went a long way to make the rooms feel warmer and more inviting.
Ideally, we’d like to see a happy middle ground in Pop Century’s lobby update. Keep the time capsules and keep the overall vibe that takes guests through the decades … but maybe lose some of the pale yellow and pea green color palette.
