It’s once again time for a construction update on the new Disney Vacation Club (DVC) tower that’s being built at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. When we last checked on this project back in January, paint was being added to the building. Now, new aerial images show the true size and scale of this DVC addition.
The always awesome @bioreconstruct captured these new aerials that show the latest construction progress on the Polynesian DVC Tower.
There’s still a lot of work to do before the new tower is ready for guests. Structurally, the tower looks mostly complete. The final theming touches and landscaping will be among the last steps before it opens in late 2024.
Another aerial shows how close the Polynesian’s DVC tower sits next to the rest of the resort and the nearby Wedding Chapel at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort.
We always reserve judgement about a new Disney project until it’s completed and open to guests. That said, we have to point out that the reception to this DVC tower has been mild-to-negative within the Disney community ever since its announcement. The initial concept art had many questioning the overall direction.
There’s no question that the tower is abandoning the look and style of the original Polynesian Village Resort. In fact, the Polynesian DVC tower has embodied many of the recent Disney design trends where modern styles and minimal theming take precedent over immersive spaces. That general strategy and design style is one many fans (us included) hope Disney reverses.
There have also been questions about how the DVC tower will impact the Polynesian’s infrastructure and amenities. How will the Monorail handle all the additional guests? Will the resort’s dining options be able to keep up with increased demand? Those questions – and many others – are yet to be answered.
