Disney is getting ready to begin the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history. Ahead of the closure of the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island, Disney has spent the last few months clearing land just to the west of the park. Let’s take a look at what’s going on just past Frontierland.
The always great @bioreconstruct captured some new aerial images showing all the land clearing west of the Magic Kingdom.
Here’s another angle taken from the opposite perspective. This view really helps with the scale and size of the cleared land. It’s enormous! Just look at how the cleared land compares to Frontierland and the Rivers of America.
It’s believed this land will be used as a staging area for all of the work on Piston Peak (the new Cars area) and the new Villains Land. Construction trailers, materials, and parking for the workers should fill this newly-cleared land. Disney has also cleared land to the west of the Magic Kingdom for a new water retention area.
By all accounts, it appears Disney is planning to start working on the Magic Kingdom expansion as soon as the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island close on July 7. We don’t have an opening date for Piston Peak or Villains land, but we think guests will spot demolition beginning sooner than later.
