How Many Steps Do You Take During a Disney World Vacation?

Updated:

Walt Disney World has the blessing of size and is home to four theme parks, two water parks, a shopping district, and more than 20 resorts. All of that means you’re going to do a lot of walking while enjoying Disney World. And we mean a lot of walking.

We’ve tracked all of our steps during several Disney World vacations. On some trips we took things more leisurely, and on others we went hard and visited all four theme parks in one day. Averaging those two styles of trips out gave us a safe estimate for total steps.

You should expect to take between 10,000 and 20,000 steps a day during an average Disney World day. That number will shrink if you have a full resort day, and can balloon much higher if you park hop or do a long park day. We hit over 30,000 steps when we visited all four parks in one day. Our personal “normal” daily average at Disney World is more in the 20,000 steps range, but we admittedly do more than most.

You might feel like this turtle after a long day walking at Disney World.

Our record for steps in a day happened during a runDisney event when we ran a half marathon and then, as die-hard Disney fans do, went and enjoyed EPCOT. That day was over 45,000 steps, but that’s a big outlier.

Step counts will also vary depending on your resort and transportation choices. For example, Caribbean Beach Resort is massive and spread out. You’ll do a lot more walking to get around Caribbean Beach than you would at say Wilderness Lodge Resort. The same can be said if you decided to walk between EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios instead of taking the boat or Disney Skyliner.

Summarized, you should expect to walk a lot in Disney World. We recommend guests should start walking more in advance of their vacation. Take more walks around the neighborhood so you’re more prepared for big step days at the theme parks. Make sure you have good shoes and socks. Blisters can happen in the most magical place on Earth, and we don’t want it to ruin your vacation.
