The trend of Disney World keeping only one of its water parks open at a time is continuing. After announcing a celebration for the 30th anniversary of Blizzard Beach, Disney confirmed the water park would close April 30. Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon will reopen on May 1 and will be the only water park open this summer.
Disney World hasn’t had both of its water parks open at the same time since before Spring 2020. Prior to that time, guests could choose which water park experience they wanted – a melted winter water land or a tropical oasis. Now, Disney cites “seasonal refurbishments” as the reason they won’t have both parks open simultaneously.
This is particularly disappointing news because of the new perk for 2025 that allows Disney resort guests to visit a water park for free on the day of check in. It would have been great for guests to be able to choose which water park to visit. Big water park fans should be aware that Blizzard Beach is usually only open in the winter (which is sort of silly) and Typhoon Lagoon is usually only open in the summer.
We’ve said for years that we’re not fans of Disney World refusing to have both water parks open. The decision is rooted in operational costs and finances, which is a shame because Disney had no issue having both parks open for years. The decision isn’t guest-friendly, and we hope it changes soon.
