Disney Genie+ Rebranding, Becoming More Like FastPass+ at Disney World

Disney Genie+ is no more. The premium line-skipping service is changing its name to Lightning Lane Multi Pass at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland. The current individual Lighting Lane pass, which has guests pay an additional price for one specific attraction, will now become Lightning Lane Single Pass. The updated system will operate as it does now at Disneyland (albeit with a new name), but there’s some big changes coming to Disney World.

Beginning July 24, Disney World guests with Lightning Lane Multi Pass will be able to make three Lighting Lane selections before the day of their visit. Guests staying at a Disney resort will be able to make selections seven days before their visit, and other guests can book three days in advance.

Attractions at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be split into two tiers. Guests will only be able to select a maximum of one attraction from the top tier (the most popular rides) and then the rest must be from the second tier (less popular rides). Disney’s Animal Kingdom won’t have any tiers.

Here’s a complete look at the different Lighting Lane Multi Pass tiers.

Is This FastPass+?

Does this sound familiar? It should to frequent Disney World guests who remember the old FastPass+ system. This new system is very similar to FastPass+ with the exception that guests have a smaller booking window (maximum of seven days versus 60) and now have to pay for the service. Beyond that, it’s very similar to what Disney abandoned in 2021.

We welcome the change that will allow guests to make plans in advance and not have to spend quite as much time on their phones at the parks. And, we welcome anything that removes the silly 7am wake-up call. However, FastPass+ still sits in many guests’ recent memory. It’s hard not to compare the formerly included FastPass+ perk to the now very similar upcharge Lightning Lane Multi Pass.

As Disney World changes their systems once again, guests may run into more confusion. The shift from FastPass+ to Genie+ to Lightning Lane Multi Pass in just a handful of years makes finding reliable, trustworthy information difficult. Thankfully, our good friends over at Royal Carriage Vacations are available to help.
