Disney fans were quick to notice that the unveiled plans for the transformation of Epcot didn’t mention the Imagination pavilion and its resident purple dragon Figment. In fact, the Imagination pavilion appears to sit in two of Epcot’s new neighborhoods – World Celebration and World Nature. Should fans be worried about Figment’s future?
Prior to D23 Expo 2019, a couple rumors circulated suggesting Disney has discussed an update for the Imagination pavilion. That led some to believe Disney would announce those plans alongside Epcot’s other changes, but that didn’t pan out despite Figment being mentioned multiple times.
Beloved Disney insider Martin Smith shed a bit of light on what’s going on with the Imagination pavilion. Summarized, there’s long-term plans to update / overhaul the pavilion after other projects have wrapped up.
He added that Spaceship Earth’s refurbishment moved ahead of the Imagination pavilion’s in the list of priorities. That should mean that the Imagination pavilion will remain open until Spaceship Earth is completed and again open to guests. A rough, rough timeline might pencil in the updated Imagination pavilion opening in 2025.
Will an update to the Imagination pavilion include Figment? Or even the return of Dreamfinder? That decision sounds like it’s still up in the air. Insiders have reported that multiple proposals are still on the table and no final decisions have been made.
