Rafiki’s Planet Watch now expected to reopen in Spring 2019

Updated:

In a surprising turn of events, Rafiki’s Planet Watch at Animal Kingdom is expected to reopen in Spring of 2019. Changes for guests are expected to be made to the area, though Disney hasn’t announced any official updates.

Previously, it appeared that the location would be closing permanently to guests beginning in October 2018.

This has been a strange story to follow. Rafiki’s Planet Watch was initially believed to be going seasonal before reportedly closing on a permanent basis. Now, the area will apparently reopen with some updates and changes for guests in 2019.

The rumors initially suggested that the area would be closed as a cost-cutting measure, but that long-term plans would eventually call for a development of some sorts to transform the area into a new land. Those were some very long-term plans, but they were at least on the horizon. Instead, Rafiki’s Planet Watch will live on (for now), albeit transformed in some ways … unless this story takes another unexpected left turn in the near future.
