Back in July, we discussed that Ziploc was becoming the official sponsor of Splash Mountain at the Magic Kingdom. That announcement came as Disney was making several conservation efforts regarding plastics, including the elimination of straws and lids at its parks. Now that some time has passed, Ziploc bags will soon be distributed at the Splash Mountain attraction.
As seen over on WDWMagic, Ziploc bags will be distributed at the ride to keep riders’ phones and other valuables dry. Recycling stations will be positioned at the exit of the ride in an attempt to avoid waste.
This whole story is kind of fascinating. As Disney makes big moves to cut down on plastic waste, it seems kind of odd that they’d agree to a sponsorship that involves handing out plastic bags to guests. Most guests bring their own bags or avoid water rides if they have valuables. Even with the recycling stations, the decision to hand out bags remains a controversial, if not puzzling, decision.
