Walt Disney World is suspending all of its construction projects

Walt Disney World is expected to halt all current construction projects due to the new recommendation guidelines from the CDC. As reported by the Orlando Business Journal, construction crews have already been notified that their Walt Disney World construction sites were closing down.

The pause in construction projects comes under new recommendations restricting groups to 10 or fewer people. This pause shows just how rapidly things are changing when just yesterday crews could be seen continuing to paint Cinderella Castle.

This decision, which is the correct one at this time, will have long-term effects on the timelines for several announced Walt Disney World additions. The new TRON coaster, Guardians of the Galaxy coaster and the new Star Wars resort could face lengthy delays before opening. Epcot’s transformation will stretch out even further and may evolve from its current plans should budget cuts be necessary.

Beyond just delaying current projects, it’s very possible that future additions may now be cancelled as Disney tries to balance its budget. Items such as the Mary Poppins attraction at Epcot, a project that has yet to break down, could be shelved for the foreseeable future.
