Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser guests will be “truly on board a ship” and encouraged to dress in full cosplay

Updated:

The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel will be a new immersive experience coming to Walt Disney World in 2022. The two-day, two-night stay will place guests straight into their own Star Wars story. Ahead of its opening, architect and artist Ann Morrow Johnson spoke about what guests should expect.

Johnson’s comments on StarWars.com offer some fun insights on the experience. To start, she says that both serious and casual Star Wars fans will find their stays enjoyable.

“I deeply believe that this has to be fun for people who love Star Wars and the people who love them. So if you have never heard of Chewbacca before, or youโ€™ve never heard of a lightsaber before, our goal is that you still have a great time. If you want to sit back, drink a space cocktail, and watch it all happen, thatโ€™s awesome. Have a fantastic space cruise.”

As Johnson notes, stays on the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser are more comparable to a cruise ship than a traditional hotel. This isn’t a location you’d book if you plan to spend the day at Epcot or Magic Kingdom. The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser should be viewed as its own self-contained experience.

Technology will be used to convince guests they’re traveling through space and leaving Walt Disney World behind.

“You are truly on board a ship. When you look out the window, you will see a galaxy far, far away. When youโ€™re at the front of the ship, youโ€™ll see us moving forward. If youโ€™re on the starboard side, youโ€™ll see it moving to the side. On the port side, same deal. And just like any other cruise, we have an itinerary. So we have a set list of planets that we will visit. Itโ€™s possible that we might take a detour or two if we find ourselves in unexpected circumstances.”

Summarized, the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser promises to be the most immersive experience offered by Disney. Guests will come face-to-face with Star Wars characters, enjoy an upscale take on Star Wars food and drinks, and much more. To add to the immersion, guests will be encouraged to dress up and become their own Star Wars character.

“We are encouraging our guests to be in full cosplay. So if you want to have Twiโ€™lek lekku and a full robe, we are all for it aboard the Halcyon. And then we will treat you like the well-heeled galactic traveler that you are.”

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will first welcome guests in 2022. An official opening date hasn’t been announced at this time, but we’d imagine reservations will open in the near future.
