Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios opened its standby line for the first time today. Moving away from the virtual pass system, the attraction opened to enormous lines on its first day of normal operation.
At park open, the wait time for Rise of the Resistance swelled to over a 3-hour wait. The longest posted wait time we saw was 220 minutes. Guests waited in extended queues that stretched outside of the Rise of the Resistance, into backstage areas and even into the queue for Muppet Vision 3D. Thankfully, many guests reported the line moved smoothly.
Wait times dropped steadily after the initial rope drop rush. The posted wait fell to 75 minutes less than two hours after park opening.
It’ll be interesting to see how waits for Rise of the Resistance fluctuate. The ride is known for having significant downtime, which could balloon wait times in a hurry. It’s also worth noting that current crowds at Walt Disney World have been relatively small. That will change as big crowds are expected for the 50th anniversary on October 1.
Soon, guests will be able to pay to skip the line at Rise of the Resistance when Lighting Lane opens. Rise of the Resistance will not be included in Disney Genie+ and will require its own separate payment.
