Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, the interactive game guests can play around the theme park, will close on January 24, 2021. It’s believed that the extended lines that allow for social distancing have blocked some of the game’s portals, resulting in the closure. Disney has also cited the shift to mobile technology as another reason behind the closure.
If you’re unfamiliar with the game, guests wanting to play Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom would first visit the Firehouse on Main Street USA. There they’d receive information on the game and their first spell cards that made the interactive game possible. Guests would then set out on a role-playing adventure that could visit 20 unique portals around the Magic Kingdom.
Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom was one of those hidden gems that many guests overlooked or didn’t know existed. It was a nice activity that allowed for exploration without standing in a line. Being able to bring areas of the Magic Kingdom to life by holding up a card was a fun and interactive experience many guests loved.
Disney continually released new cards, specifically during holiday parties, which gave the game replay value and offered a free souvenir. However, the game’s overall popularity seems to have trailed off over the past several years.
It’s unclear if Disney has any plans to bring a new scavenger hunt style game to the Magic Kingdom for guests.
