Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is moving away from the virtual boarding pass system. Starting September 23, 2021, Rise of the Resistance will open its standby queue for the very first time.
The popular attraction has relied on the virtual queue since it opened in 2019.
Disney: “Starting Sept. 23, we will pause the use of virtual queue for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, and guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios may experience this incredible attraction using a traditional standby queue for the first time since it opened in 2019.”

A virtual queue could return in the future if Walt Disney World deems it necessary. Disney specifically notes the virtual queue may return “from time to time.”
Guests wanting to skip the line will be able to do so when Lighting Lane officially launches. Rise of the Resistance will not be included in Disney Genie+ and will require a separate payment to bypass the line.
While we know Disney will push guests to pay for Lighting Lane, we’re in favor of the virtual queue ending. Trying to secure a Rise of the Resistance boarding pass was one of the most frustrating experiences in Walt Disney World during crowded days.
