Lightning strikes crane at The Cove construction site, starts small fire

A massive lightning strike hit a crane positioned at the construction site of the new hotel going in near the Swan and Dolphin Resorts. The crane, which is working on the 14-story hotel named The Cove, had a small fire following the lightning strike.

Thankfully, the fire didn’t last long and appeared to burn itself out. No damage was immediately visible from the ground and no injuries have been reported at this time.

Workers were in the relative area of the crane prior to the lightning strike. However, no one was believed to be in the crane itself due to the weather conditions.

Crews later returned to the site after the fire was out.

The crane will now need to be thoroughly examined to determine if it’s able to safely operate. The Cove was originally scheduled to open in March 2021, but that date could be pushed back following construction delays and the recent lightning strike.
