Disney has posted a new article on their website highlighting 21 reasons to get excited about a trip to Walt Disney World in 2021. Epcot’s new attraction Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and the new Cirque du Soleil show in Disney Springs were specifically confirmed to be opening in 2021.
Notably absent from the list were TRON Lightcycle Run at the Magic Kingdom and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Epcot. Both attractions appear to have been officially delayed from their original 2021 timeline.
Below is Disney’s statement on upcoming 2021 attractions.
“Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, the new family-friendly attraction coming to the France pavilion in EPCOT, will debut in 2021. And the new Cirque du Soleil show “Drawn to Life,” coming to Disney Springs, will be a collaboration between Cirque du Soleil, Walt Disney Animation Studios and Walt Disney Imagineering.”
Back in October 2020, a rumor circulated that the TRON coaster construction would be put on hold and the opening would be delayed. A similar rumor surfaced suggesting the Guardians of the Galaxy coaster would be shelved until 2022.
The belief was Disney wanted to spread out its construction costs during these unstable financial times. They also wanted to wait until some normalcy returned and use the opening of the two attractions in “Welcome Back” marketing campaigns.
Disney would want to start building the hype now if these two rides were opening this year. The two attractions were supposed to be for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary, which is officially in October 2021, but Disney will likely extend that celebration into 2022.
