Disney made headlines when they announced that Avengers Campus will open in Disneyland on June 4, 2021. The opening date reveal also included an extremely brief update on some of the pending projects in Walt Disney World.
First, Disney reiterated the October 1, 2021 opening date for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at Epcot. They then mentioned that Epcot’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind coaster and the new nighttime spectacular Harmonious are “coming soon.”
“As we previously announced, Walt Disney World Resort will kick off our 50th anniversary on Oct. 1, 2021. As part of our multiyear transformation of EPCOT, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will also debut on that day, while work continues on Harmonious and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind – just a few of the incredible experiences coming soon.”
What does Disney mean by coming soon? Their previous announcement highlighting new attractions coming in 2021 didn’t mention the Guardians of the Galaxy coaster. It’s widely believed the ride has been delayed to 2022. Meanwhile, Harmonious has a better chance of a 2021 debut now that all of the barges are in place and fireworks shows are nearing a return.
Disney did not mention TRON Lightcycle Run at Magic Kingdom in their update. Work has continued on TRON’s outdoor canopy, but the building has been sealed up and interior construction has reportedly been paused. It appears Disney has bumped the new Magic Kingdom coaster from a planned 2021 opening to 2022.
As always, Disney’s timelines are subject to change. We wouldn’t be surprised to see some projects accelerated if Walt Disney World is able to return to normal capacity in the near future.
