Cosmic Rewind’s ‘Holiday Remix’ Likely Won’t Return in 2023

Updated:

It doesn’t sound like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT will have a holiday soundtrack in 2023. The coaster featured an onboard holiday track during the 2022 holidays (the holiday remix replaced the usual set of songs that can play on Cosmic Rewind), but there’s no indication the festive track is in Disney’s plans.

Disney’s series of announcements for the 2023 holiday season mentioned a new ticketed event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the return of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom, and the continuing tradition of the Candlelight Processional at EPCOT.

But, Disney’s holiday plans didn’t mention the iconic Cinderella Castle Dream Lights or the more polarizing holiday remix for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Barring a last-minute change, the holiday remix won’t be returning.

Disney fans were excited when the ‘Holiday Remix’ concept was first announced for Cosmic Rewind back in June 2022. Fans speculated about the possible roster of holiday tunes and how many rides it’d take to hear them all. Unfortunately, the reality of Cosmic Rewind’s ‘Holiday Remix” wasn’t what many expected.

The ‘Holiday Remix’ was a single song that took over all of the rides on Cosmic Rewind. That meant you were guaranteed to hear it whenever you rode during the 30-plus days it was active. That’s fine, in theory, but many Disney fans agreed that the holiday remix song itself just wasn’t very good.

The song, which is commonly referred to as ‘Run, Run, Rocket’, was a nod to ‘Run, Run Rudolph’ and featured some familiar themes. It wasn’t bad. But, it wasn’t what many were expecting or hoping for when a holiday soundtrack was announced. Just think how good a Trans-Siberian Orchestra song could be on Cosmic Rewind!

It’s possible a holiday soundtrack will return to Cosmic Rewind at some point in the future since the change is relatively easy. If it does, here’s hoping for a fleshed out set of songs that add new life to the coaster.
